It was a great privilege to collaborate with On Your Side (OYS) and ATISA to deliver Creative Writing vs. The Hostile Environment: Written on the Bodies, a free 3-hour creative writing workshop for transgender ESEA community members. The workshop, developed by ATISA and TransESEA, and led by facilitator Ogie, explored black and brown queer migrant bodies as the site of border violence within the context of the UK. Combining community discussion and writing exercises, the event highlighted the power of creative writing to construct a counter-language to the language of the hostile environment.

One attendee noted that the event was ‘wonderful’ and that ‘all participants felt safe and supportive of each other’.
